Privacy Policy
1. Overview
MyLawnWeek ("we," "us," or "our") operates a lawn care intelligence platform consisting of a web app at mylawnweek.com and a weekly email newsletter. The app provides live soil temperature, weather data, and zone-specific lawn care recommendations based on your ZIP code. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using MyLawnWeek - whether through the website, the app, or the newsletter - you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this policy. We are committed to handling your data responsibly and in compliance with applicable laws, including the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide a useful, location-relevant service.
Anonymous zone lookups
When you enter a ZIP code on our homepage to view live zone data, no personal information is stored. Your ZIP code is used in real time to resolve your turfgrass zone and fetch weather data, then discarded. No account is required and nothing is saved.
Information you provide when creating an account or subscribing:
- Email address - required to create an account and receive the newsletter.
- ZIP code - used to determine your turfgrass zone and provide location-appropriate recommendations. Your ZIP code is never used for any other purpose.
- Lawn measurements (optional) - if you use the Measure tool to draw your lawn, the square footage and shape data you enter is saved to your account. It is used solely to calculate supply quantities in your weekly plan and is never shared or used for any other purpose.
Information collected automatically when you use our website or app:
- Website analytics - we use Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) to understand how visitors use our site. This may include pages visited, time on site, and general location (city/region level). No personally identifiable information is included.
- Conversion tracking - we use Google Ads conversion tracking to measure when visitors take key actions (such as submitting a ZIP code or signing up). This helps us understand the effectiveness of any advertising we run.
- Email engagement data - our email service provider records whether you open a newsletter and whether you click any links within it. This data is used to understand which content is most useful and to maintain list hygiene.
- Device and client information - your email client may share general information such as the type of device used when you open the newsletter. We do not collect IP addresses.
We do not collect your name, phone number, mailing address, or any payment information.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to operate and improve MyLawnWeek:
- To power the live zone lookup - resolving your ZIP to a turfgrass zone and fetching real-time soil temperature and weather data.
- To deliver your weekly lawn care newsletter to your inbox.
- To tailor content and recommendations to your turfgrass zone.
- To analyze engagement in aggregate to improve the app and future newsletter issues.
- To process unsubscribe and account deletion requests.
- To measure the performance of any advertising we run (via Google Ads conversion tracking).
- To calculate zone-specific supply quantities if you have saved lawn measurements via the Measure tool.
- To comply with legal obligations, including anti-spam laws.
We will never use your information to send unrelated marketing, sell advertising targeted to you personally, or share your data for third-party marketing purposes.
4. Affiliate Links
When you click an affiliate link in the newsletter or on our website, you are directed to a third-party retailer's website (such as Amazon, Home Depot, or Lowe's). At that point you are subject to that retailer's own privacy policy. We do not receive any personal information about you from these transactions - only aggregate commission reports.
Our product recommendations are based on seasonal lawn care needs and publicly available product information. Affiliate relationships do not influence the recommendations we include.
5. Email Service Provider
We use a third-party email service provider (ESP) to manage our subscriber list and deliver newsletters. Your email address and ZIP code are stored on the ESP's servers. We select providers that maintain industry-standard security practices and do not permit your data to be used for their own marketing or sold to third parties.
Our ESP processes your data on our behalf and is contractually required to protect it. If you have questions about the specific provider we use, please contact us - see Section 12.
6. Tracking & Analytics
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website and app. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect data about your visit. This data is processed by Google and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Email open and click tracking
Our newsletters include a small invisible tracking pixel (a standard industry practice) that records when an email is opened and whether links are clicked. This allows us to understand which topics our readers find most valuable and to maintain a healthy list. If you prefer not to be tracked, you can disable automatic image loading in your email client - this prevents the open-tracking pixel from firing. Link clicks are tracked by URL redirect regardless of image settings.
We do not use third-party advertising trackers, retargeting pixels, or cross-site tracking of any kind beyond the Google services described above.
7. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share your data only in these limited circumstances:
- Email service provider - your email and ZIP are stored with our ESP to enable newsletter delivery and account management.
- Google - anonymized analytics and conversion data is shared with Google as described in Section 6.
- Legal requirements - if required by law, court order, or valid government request, we may disclose your information to the appropriate authorities.
- Business transfer - if MyLawnWeek is acquired or merged with another business, subscriber information may be transferred as part of that transaction. You would be notified by email prior to any such transfer and given the opportunity to unsubscribe or delete your account.
8. Data Retention
Anonymous ZIP lookups (no account) are not stored - no personal data is retained from these sessions.
For account holders and newsletter subscribers, we retain your email address and ZIP code for as long as your account remains active or your subscription is active. If you unsubscribe from the newsletter, your email address is moved to a suppression list (required under CAN-SPAM) but is otherwise deleted from our active records within 30 days. If you delete your account, all associated personal data is deleted within 30 days.
Engagement data associated with past newsletter issues may be retained in aggregate for up to 24 months, after which it is anonymized or deleted.
You may request complete deletion of your data at any time - see Section 12.
9. Your Rights & Choices
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter - every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. Requests are processed within 10 business days as required by CAN-SPAM.
- Delete your account - you may request deletion of your account and all associated personal data by contacting us at the address in Section 12.
- Access your data - you may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct your data - you may request an update if your ZIP code or email address changes.
- Object to analytics - you may opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the browser add-on linked in Section 6, or object to email engagement tracking by disabling image loading in your email client.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12. We will respond within 30 days.
10. Children's Privacy
MyLawnWeek is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will notify subscribers via a notice in the next newsletter issue and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
Continued use of MyLawnWeek after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. If you disagree with any changes, you may unsubscribe or delete your account at any time.
